I’m a passionate writer focused on the arts, and sometimes on poetry and prose. I am always looking for interesting music and artwork to write about and I make it my goal to cover as wide a variety of the arts as possible in as many different ways as possible. I try to cover a diversity of medium and genre, intersections with cultural issues, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.
I think that people doing new things with old mediums, old things with new mediums, and everything in between is interesting, but I also think that someone who has committed to one thing, whether its the hip new thing or not, is worth writing about too. I’m always open to hearing about new projects, and always open to collaboration. I’m available as a freelance writer in any area of arts writing. I am a regular contributor Jazz.About.com, and I have also contributed articles to New Music Box, the FONT Blog and of course, right here at DouglasDetrick.com. I’ve selected some samples of my work, broken down by category, for those who might be interested. I am also available on a freelance basis as a grant writer.
