To help commemorate the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center Attacks of September 11, 2001, WYNC and WQXR asked their listeners to offer their ideas for music they would like to hear broadcast on 9/11/2011. The resulting playlist is diverse, from classical music to hip hop, and is an interesting look at what different people consider to be appropriate for such an occasion.

Click to view and stream the playlist.

I asked you all to offer your thoughts on this same topic, but I’m wondering specifically what you think about the idea of whether or not music, or art in general can heal at all? Is this an appropriate way to commemorate the terrorist attacks, or should we recognize the event in a different way? How do you mourn, and how are the arts connected? What did you find was most helpful, or unhelpful, in the many ways that Americans commemorated the attacks?

If you choose to participate, please offer no more than one paragraph of your thoughts by Friday, September 16 and I’ll post all the responses on this blog on the 18th. Thanks so much!
