SUMMARY:Douglas Detrick's AnyWhen Ensemble @ SF Center For New Music
DESCRIPTION:This concert will be a one-of-a-kind new music party with Douglas Detrick’s AnyWhen Ensemble\, Lisa Mezzacappa’s String Band and Addleds the brutally minimal improvising quartet of Kyle Bruckmann (oboe/English horn)\, Tony Dryer (contrabass)\, Jacob Felix Heule (percussion)\, and Kanoko Nishi (koto). This counterintuitive cross-genre collaboration is part of a mini-series supported by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music’s Musical Grant Program. Can’t wait to play with our new friends from San Francisco!

DESCRIPTION:This performance of Douglas Detrick’s Cartography features the Cartography Quartet with Jonathan Goldberger on guitar\, Tanya Kalmanovitch on viola\, and Sara Schoenbeck on bassoon. \nDouglas Detrick’s Cartography Ensemble explores the landscape of American music\, from gospel to blues to traditional ballads through creative arrangements and original compositions drawing on Detrick’s background in jazz and chamber music. The newest of Detrick’s many musical projects\, ranging from a big band to the chamber-jazz quintet AnyWhen Ensemble\, this group continues his commitment to the blending of jazz with chamber music\, this time inspired by the many channels of the American folk tradition. This ensemble has taken on several forms ranging from solo performances\, duos\, trios and quartets\, all featuring the composing\, arranging\, singing and trumpet playing of its founder and leader. \nClick to see a video of this group playing Walk Around My Bedside and Stone’s Throw. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Grant Writing Workshop in Sunnyside\, NY - August 18\, 2013
DESCRIPTION:Click here to RSVP now! Grants can be an vital part of every artist’s fundraising strategy\, but the application process can be so complex that some deserving artists won’t even apply. The best way to give yourself a real chance to win arts grants is to learn the language of grant seeking\, and what you can expect from particular grants and from the grant seeking process as a whole. \nLearn where and how to look for grants\nTime is precious when you are an artist\, so it’s important to know what resources are available and what to look for so you don’t waste your time. This workshop will show you the best resources for research and how to use them. \nLearn the fundamentals of budgeting\nA grant budget is different from an accounting budget. We will talk about how to communicate to a potential funder that you can be trusted with their money. \nLearn to write a compelling proposal\nIf you can write well about your ideas\, then you’re much more likely to get your ideas funded. Good writing is not rocket science\, but there are some important guidelines that we will discuss. \nClick here to RSVP now!\nThis workshop will be a relaxed meeting of artists with common interests\, and I make sure no one feels intimidated because they don’t know anything about grant writing. Beyond a great opportunity to improve your career\, this will be a great place to meet like-minded artists who could be an important part of your community! Please follow this link to RSVP. \nAbout Douglas Detrick\nDouglas Detrick is a composer\, trumpet player\, and arts consultant whose work in these diverse areas is distinguished by its quiet thoughtfulness and its embrace of good ideas from unconventional sources. He was awarded the 2011 Chamber Music America New Jazz Works and Presenting Jazz grants for his work with his chamber-jazz quintet Douglas Detrick’s AnyWhen Ensemble\, and the commissioned work “The Bright and Rushing World” was premiered at New York’s Jazz Gallery in 2012 and performed throughout the United States. He has worked with the Festival of New Trumpet Music and the American Composer’s Alliance as well as many other individual artists all over New York.
