More Devotedly Volume I event @ The 1905
The 1905 830 N Shaver St, Portland, Oregon, United States7:00 pm and 8:30 pm sets Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble’s Executive Director Douglas Detrick steps out of the background to lead his own band in two sets of music. More Devotedly is both the name of the band and of the podcast hosted by Detrick that shares the stories of artists whose work addresses the most urgent issues in our democracy. Like a party with Pete Seeger, Duke Ellington, Ornette Coleman, and Studs Terkel all in attendance, More Devotedly is a cultural and political discussion set to music, featuring songs, snippets of interviews from the podcast, and a hybrid of old-time folk music, jazz, and electronic music played by Detrick on banjo, trumpet and voice; Joe Kye on violin, electronics and voice; Mike Gamble on guitar, and Christopher Johnedis on drums.

Glass Stories EP & Chapbook release concert
Resound NW 1532 SW Jefferson St, Portland, Oregon, United StatesGlass Stories is a collection of two short stories, two songs, and photographs inspired by the fragility, adaptability, and resiliency of glass. The project makes connections across boundaries of history, fiction, and music, with the mythical and physical presence of glass as an inspiration. It’s also a project that marks a new chapter in my career—this is my first collection of short stories, and shows the deep connections I’m hoping to build between music and fiction in the coming years. I'll perform on banjo and voice, with Amelia Lukas on flute, Catherine Lee on english horn, and Jasnam Daya Singh on harmonium and piano. Rebecca Sanborn will play a solo vocal/piano set to open the concert. Print copies of Glass Stories chapbook will be available, but attendees are strongly encouraged to pre-order tickets and merchandise through the Glass Stories Kickstarter campaign.
RACC Arts3C Grant Feedback Group

There are six spots available for artists of any discipline to join a feedback group that will meet at 7 pm on Monday, September 12 at Mosaic String Academy, 5120 SE 28th Ave, Portland, OR 97202. This is a great way to get more comfortable with grant writing in a fun, low-cost setting. We’ll be focusing on the upcoming RACC Arts3C grant program. Each participant will share their application or ideas, and I and the other participants will offer feedback. You don’t need to have written a draft of your application, or even have a fully formed idea for what you’d want your project to be. A group of artists giving feedback like this can be incredibly powerful, not matter what challenges you’re encountering in your grant writing process. RSVP to reserve your spot.
